Our Approach to Care

At Patengo, we believe every person deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported. Our approach to care is people‑first: we take time to understand each person’s story, strengths, and needs so we can build support that truly fits their life.

What “Compassionate Care” Means to Us

Compassionate care is more than being kind. It means:

  • Listening carefully to what each person and family is going through
  • Respecting culture, identity, and personal preferences
  • Moving at a pace that feels safe and comfortable
  • Being honest and clear about what we can offer
  • Showing up consistently, not just in moments of crisis

We aim to create a calm, trusting relationship where people feel safe to ask questions and share concerns.

How We Build Individual Support Plans

No two people are the same, so no two support plans should be either. When we start working with someone, we learn about their daily life, goals, and challenges; talk with family members or other supports (with consent); review any existing care plans or school/hospital notes; identify what’s working well and where extra support is needed; and create a clear plan with realistic steps and regular check‑ins. Support plans are flexible. As needs change, we adjust together.

Working Together With Families and Teams

Care works best when everyone is on the same page. We collaborate with parents and caregivers, teachers and school staff, hospital teams and community workers, as well as therapists and other professionals. We share updates in simple, plain language so families always know what’s happening and why.

Our Commitment to Safety and Dignity

Safety and dignity are at the heart of everything we do. Our associates are trained to use trauma‑informed, non‑judgmental approaches, support emotional regulation and de‑escalation, protect privacy and confidentiality, and respect boundaries and personal space. We want every person we support to feel valued, capable, and in control of their own story.
